The Cross Farmer - February 2010

Dear Parents/Carers
Let’s hope the majority of the bad weather is now behind us as the recent snow really disrupted the flow of school life and I know caused you problems with child care on the school closure days.

Text Messaging
It became very clear during the spell of bad weather how important it was to get quickly in touch with parents and whilst Eagle Radio and our website as well as Parent Mail did a sterling job I feel that text messaging would provide an immediate answer to whether the school was open or not.  I would therefore ask as many parents as possible to subscribe to this service by notifying the office of your mobile telephone numbers together with your agreement that we may text you with relevant school information.

School Notices
It has been drawn to my attention that some parents were unaware of information being posted on my office window. I ask that you please take time to check the window for up to date information.

Arts Week
The children thoroughly enjoyed Arts Week experiencing new skills and techniques in activities based on the book “ Jamil’s Clever Cat” by Fiona French which is a folk tale from Bengal. We were delighted that so many of you were able to see the finished product on Friday. Your kind comments were well received. I thank Miss Hodges for arranging the week and to all the teachers and Teaching Assistants for the extra time given to the project to make it such a success.

Breakfast Club
A Valentine breakfast has been arranged for Friday 12th February. On this occasion the breakfast is for children only at a cost of £3:50p. All children are welcome. Please look at my office window for further information.

Second Hand Uniform Sale
There will be a second hand uniform sale on the first Monday of every month starting on Monday 1st March. This will be held in the school foyer from 2:30p.m. All money raised from this venture will go to the Friends of Cross Farm.

School Governors
I wish to express my thanks to the school governors who give their time voluntarily to ensure that the school complies fully with government regulations. As well as attending governors meetings they regularly attend the school to monitor the curriculum. They gave up their evenings for further governor training. All the governors can be contacted via the school should you wish to discuss any issues with them.

Assembly
This month we are delighted to welcome Reverend Mark Wickenden of Frimley Baptist Church and Reverend Rachael Hawkins from the Methodist Church. The children always enjoy these assemblies which are lively with a contemporary feel.

Fire Safety Talk
A representative from the Fire Service will talk to Year2 children about fire safety and all kinds of fire hazards on Tuesday 9th February.

Parents Consultation Evenings
Just a reminder that these will be held on...
Wednesday 3rd March – 3:30 to 6:00 p.m.
and
Thursday 4th March – 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.
This will give you an opportunity to see their books as well as   an appointment with the teacher.
Appointment sheets will be on display in the entrance foyer week beginning Monday 22nd February to allow you to book a convenient ten minute appointment.

Friends of Cross Farm
The Friends will be holding a Valentine Disco on Thursday 11th February 6:00p.m to 7:30p.m in the school hall. Further information will be sent to you by the Friends. The Friends will be decorating the Hall in preparation for the disco at 2:00p.m. and would welcome as much help as possible.

Mothers Day shopping
The Friends have organised a Mother’s Day shopping event on Monday 8th March. The children are asked to bring a £1 in a named purse or envelope into school on that day. They will buy a small gift and will bring it home secretly hidden in book-bags to be presented on Mother’s Day at home.

Mother’s Day Assembly
Just and early reminder that our Mother’s Day assembly this year is on Friday 12th March at 9:30a.m. in the school hall. All the children will be proudly taking part and invite their mums for tea and cakes after the concert. The children at this time will be enjoying a well deserved playtime before continuing with their normal school day.

Friends Meeting
A Friends meeting has been arranged for Tuesday 2nd March at 7:45 p.m. As there will be a number of events to arrange we would appreciate as many of you as possible attending.

Book Week
We will be celebrating Book Week this year during the week beginning Monday 1st March. There will be several events held during the week for the children at school including on Thursday 4th March a drama workshop. On Friday 5th March to celebrate Book Week the children are asked to bring in their favourite book and dress up as their favourite character from any book. We look forward to seeing the children in their wonderful outfits.

Class Diaries
We are grateful that most people use the class diaries as expected to record who will be picking up their children at the end of the day. There has however been a few occasions recently when this information has not been recorded and it has been necessary for the school to contact the parents for confirmation. As these diaries are held in the classrooms I would ask parents to record this information at the beginning of the day or the end of the previous day,and unless absolutely unavoidable, not to phone school to update the diary as this creates additional work for the Office staff.

Half Term
The school will be closed for half term break between
Monday 15th February and Friday 19th February.
The school will re-open on Monday 22nd February

Yours sincerely
Mrs. S. Allan
Head Teacher
