At Cross Farm we value the contribution children can make to the planning process. The plans for the half terms across the year represent starting points for staff and the children to make a Learning Map from. Each topic will change shape according to the interests of the children and their teachers. Motivation is so important in learning, we try to harness enthusiasm when we inspire it.

Staff ensure curriculum coverage by making adjustments across the year and through liaising with the year team below and above.

Music, RE, PSE and Maths are taught in separate blocks of lessons across the year. They feature in these plans as natural links we can harness. It is imperative for us that learning makes sense to children; we are not slaves to the plan at Cross Farm!

"Adoration of the Kings" Jan Gossaert. How to interpret paintings, signs and symbols, use of colour, history of colour. Children reproduce a painting in the style of Gossaert. Place on class timeline.

Focus on writing the traditional Nativity and thinking about it's modern day equivalent. Learning the traditional story and exploring history's limitations on Mary and Joseph's experiences by placing the events in a modern day context. Trip to the Living Rainforest….Getting a flavour of what a rainforest is like. Comparing and contrasting Frimley to a Rainforest…weather, food, homes, beliefs, native creatures, things we take for granted in our lives. Where are Rainforests found in the world, focus on the equator, South and North Poles, oceans and continents. Transform the classroom into a rainforest by slowly have it grow and change every night. Play sounds as children come in in the morning.
